As an urban agglomeration, Vienna is under strong pressure to densify in order to meet the demand for affordable housing and communal areas. In addition to strategies such as adding storeys and using converted areas, the aim is also to densify existing housing estates. The possibilities of modern multi-storey timber construction are to be investigated in a residential complex from the 1960s. It was examined whether this construction method can create additional living space in densely built-up areas with low emissions and without significant disruption to local residents. The results, which were examined from urban planning aspects down to the last detail within a semester, show how timber construction works in practice.
