House on the mountain

The house on the mountain was designed as a home for a family and three small semi-detached apartments. Size, roof shape and materiality are inspired by the traditional Wälderhaus. The cubature of the house fits into the slope and at the same time orientates itself on the shape of the plot. As a result the lower floor can be accessed through a public entrance while the upper floor gets a private entrance for the family. The staircase is the centre of the house. It is surrounded by the living rooms. The facade made of spruce shingles is structured by horizontal bands of windows.
Due to the solid wood construction and the use of wood from the immediate surroundings, the CO2 consumption was minimized. A holistic energy concept completes the sustainability of the building, which is heated by long-distance heating from the local biomass heating plant. The energy roof supplies hot water and electrical energy via 15 m² of solar panels and 112 m² of integrated photovoltaic modules due to optimal orientation to the sun.
