The site's dense development takes up the motif of the old town structure with its nested buildings, narrow streets and central squares, which has grown homogeneously over two millennia. The important requirements of the space programme are housed in monoliths that are visible from afar. Their stone facades close the silhouette of the promenade. The stones come from the seven bavarian regions: they not only reflect the special geological diversity of Bavaria but also relate to the significant history of Bavarian mining.
The main entrance of the foyer and the access to the exhibition rooms is directly aligned to the Old Town Street "Unter den Schwibbögen" and forms the extension of an important urban axis. The administrative wing, including the Bavariathek, remains a solitaire that also functions disconnected from the museum's operations. It maintains connected in the underground and allows visual references to the Danube promenade and the market. It acts as a striking urban development symbol and, together with the museum, forms a protected and bright piazza: the Hunnenplatz, which offers a central starting point for bus tourism and car traffic as well as for pedestrians coming from the Old Town.
